James Eddy Hougland, 86, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on October 25, 2025 at his home. He was born on September 6, 1939 in Bloomfield to Paul and Hilda Wilson Hougland. He graduated from Bloomfield High School. On October 9, 1960 he married Charlotte Hall in Scotland County, Missouri. Charlotte passed away on March 21, 2022.
James worked at the light plant for the City of Bloomfield for over 35 years before his retirement. He loved deer hunting, coon hunting, bowling, going to casinos, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He spent many hours taking care of wood duck birds and had many bird houses on his property. He was a long-time member of the Barker Church.
He is survived by his three sons, Kevin (Kristi) Hougland of Bloomfield, Steven Hougland of Bloomfield, Brian Hougland of Jefferson City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Tasha Reyes of Ottumwa, Tera (Jon Cooper) Hougland of Biloxi, Mississippi, Kaylee (Dave Cody) Johnson of Albia, Iowa, Randi Claahsen of Nebraska, Thomas Hougland of Jefferson City, Missouri; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Hougland of Pleasant Hill, Illinois, Charles (Diane) Hougland of Milo, Iowa; sister, Virginia Mullinix of Downing, Missouri; sister-in-law, Marlene Hougland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Harold (Sally) Hougland, Alfred Hougland, David Hougland; three sisters, Doris (Bob) Newton, Helen (Art) Fuhr, Phyllis (Vern) Roe; brother-in-law, DeWayne Mullinix; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hougland.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at the Barker Church in Scotland County, Missouri. Pastor Dee Wiley will officiate. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Barker Cemetery next to the church. A meal at the church will follow burial. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Barker Church. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
