Fairfield Cross Country Competes at Conference Meet in Mount Pleasant

The Fairfield High School cross country teams raced in Mount Pleasant on Thursday, October 16th, 2025, for the Southeast Conference meet, turning in strong efforts against a competitive field.

On the girls’ side, Fort Madison, ranked fifth in Class 3A, captured the team title with a score of 29 points, followed by Washington with 50, Keokuk with 71, Fairfield in fourth with 77, and Burlington rounding out the schools with 135.

Mount Pleasant’s Avery Fedler, ranked sixth in Class 3A, won the individual girls’ race, followed by Fort Madison’s Avery Rump, ranked 11th, in second, and Mount Pleasant’s Quintrie Lee in third. Mount Pleasant had two runners finish in the top three but did not have enough athletes for a full team score.

Fairfield was led by Alex Jo Steward, who earned a top-10 finish, placing 10th overall. Caroline Van Pelt followed in 24th, Anna McAvan finished 39th, Naomi Stiemsma placed 56th, Bailey Belzer came in 77th, and Kensley Fligg rounded out the Trojans in 103rd place.

In the boys’ race, Fort Madison, ranked 14th in Class 3A, claimed the team championship with 27 points, placing four runners in the top five. Washington finished second with 44 points, followed by Mount Pleasant with 103, Burlington with 112, Fairfield in fifth with 116, and Keokuk in sixth with 125.

Washington’s Andrew Rees took first place individually, while Fort Madison’s Riley Tripp and Hunter Wiegand finished second and third, respectively.

For Fairfield, Brice Boatright led the team with a 15th-place finish. Clae Cass came in 36th, Elijah Hamilton placed 61st, Jordan Miller finished 88th, and John Miller crossed the line in 116th. Arron Wellnitz placed 149th, and Andrew Myers finished 185th.

The Trojans will look to build on their performances as they prepare for the state qualifying meet in Pella that includes a challenging field with several ranked teams on Wednesday, October 22nd, at 4:00 P.M.
