The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is now accepting applications for its popular Trees for Kids grant program, with a deadline of August 22.
Grants of up to $2,500 are available to help fund the purchase of trees and mulch for planting on public community grounds—such as parks, community centers, and public schools. A key feature of the program is involving youth in the planting process, offering hands-on opportunities for kids to engage with nature.
Research shows that trees near schools and neighborhoods can help boost children’s concentration, reduce aggression, and even lower obesity and ADHD symptoms.
