The Fairfield City Council held its final meeting of April on Monday.
After the consent agenda was approved, the council discussed a planting project at the roundabout on Highway 1. The Iowa Department of Transportation agreed to a reimbursement grant of just over $56,000 to the city of Fairfield. The city must offer bids to three different contractors, and after discussion, officials are looking to realistically get the area planted in the fall, given the current timeline. The council agreed to sign the agreement with the DOT for the grant.
The council approved to pledge $15,000 for Main Street for each of the next two years.
Next, the council approved waiving the sewer fees for properties on West Washington Avenue, West Adams Avenue, and North Court Street.
An engineering agreement for the Sunrise Trail Subdivision was unanimously approved by the council. Engineering services will include surveying, staking, and sanitary sewer services.
The council approved tax abatement applications for properties on Glenview Circle, South 8th Street, and South 9th Street.
The council also approved lime removal, hauling, and disposal of lime waste from the lime sludge lagoons at the water treatment plant at 1011 North B Street. Cornerstone Excavating Inc. was awarded the bid at $214,685.
