Joseph Martin Claussen, 68, of Ottumwa died March 13, 2025 at his home.
He was born January 16, 1957 in Ottumwa to Vernon F. and Mary Marcella Wrenn Claussen. Joseph married Karen Shumaker in June of 1987 and they later divorced.
A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he was a 1976 graduate of Ottumwa High School. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad on the bridge crew for over 40 years, retiring in 2016.
Joseph was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed attending his son’s sporting events and spending time with family.
Surviving is his son, Tyler Claussen (Heidi Thomason) of Fremont; daughters, Brooke (Josey) Hubanks and Brandi (James) Benedict both of Ottumwa; 4 siblings, Mike Claussen, Kathy Hein both of Ottumwa, Edward (Pamela) Claussen of Granger, and Steven (Illa) Claussen of Blakesburg; a brother-in-law, Brian Long; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, infant Mary Ann Claussen, Diana Claussen and Bess Long; and a brother-in-law, John Hein.
His body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
