United Way of Wapello County offers free tax preparation and filing services through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to households making $62,000 or less annually.
Appointments will be available at multiple locations across Wapello, Jefferson, and Monroe counties through the end of March. A new site in Albia will also offer limited appointments starting February 25, 2025.
To ensure efficient service, individuals must bring the following printed documents:
Driver’s License or Government ID (for both spouses if married)
- Social Security Cards for everyone, including dependents
- Last year’s tax return
- W2s for all jobs
- Forms for Self-Employment/Cash Income (1099-NEC or 1099-MISC)
- Retirement Income documentation (1099-R)
- All other tax-related forms, such as Interest and Dividends (1099-INT or 1099-DIV), Social Security Retirement or SSDI (SSA-1099), Health Insurance Marketplace Statements (1095-A), Investment Statements, and Tuition Statements (1098-T)
- Bank account and routing numbers if requesting direct deposit
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to complete a yellow intake form.
