Mercedes Kohlhardt, 21, was sunbathing in the grass by a sea wall,at Cedar Lake State Park in July 2020.
At the same time, a DNR employee stopped his utility tractor at the top of the hill.The employee climbed off the tractor and it rolled down the hill, running over Kohlhardt.
Cerro Gordo County Sherrif Kevin Pals said at the time Kohlhardt was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tje Iowa Appeals Board approved a settlement to pay $5.2 million to the estate of Mercedes Kohlhardt.
According to her obituary, Kohlhardt visited the State Park while studying environmental geography at the University Of Wisconsin-EAU Claire.
She planned to become a U>S> Park Ranger.
