An Ottumwa man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a local business and stealing items last September.

27-year-old Sheridan Duffield was charged with first-degree theft, third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, and contempt—violation of a no-contact order.

On September 24, 2024, court documents say Duffield ignored a no-contact order and broke a window while entering Java Rocket, located at 2504 North Court Street in Ottumwa. Once inside, Duffield is accused of stealing a Nuova Simonelli espresso machine, an HP computer, and an iPad Pro. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be $12,674.

During the burglary, court records say Duffield intentionally shut off power to the building by using the main circuit breaker. According to authorities, Duffield also opened all of the refrigerators, freezers, and coolers and left them open after leaving, causing the perishable food items to spoil.

A warrant for Duffield’s arrest was issued on November 15, and he was taken into custody on January 8.

Duffield is currently in the Wapello County Jail. His bond has been set at $20,000 cash only.
