Tuesday, November 19th, just days after outgoing President Biden authorized it, Ukraine hit a Russian weapons arsenal with US-made ATACMS missiles. According to two US officials, who confirmed that Ukraine fired across the border for the first time, in a major escalation, on the 1,000th day of war between the two countries.

Today, in retaliation, Russian President Vladimir Putin says Moscow has tested a new intermediate-range missile in a strike on Ukraine and that it could use the weapon against countries that have allowed Kyiv to use their missiles to strike Russia. The Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh confirmed that Russia’s missile was a new, experimental type of intermediate range missile based on it’s RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile.

The Ukrainian president said due to the lack of strong response thus far, it only emboldens the Russians actions and creates risks for every country involved. “Putin is very sensitive to this. He is testing you, dear partners,” Zelenskyy wrote. “If there is no tough response to Russia’s actions, it means they see that such actions are possible.”

Many rumblings of WWIII are heard all around, with each day seemingly bring us closer. Both Russian and Ukrainian presidents are trying to gain as much ground as possible before President Trump takes office. Will one side take it too far? How much further will the US get involved before January? Only Time can tell.
