Oskaloosa. John F. Beadle, 90, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born August 27, 1933, in New Sharon, Iowa, the son of John H. and Margaret Alice Meyer Beadle. Following school John worked in various places in Mahaska County.
On June 13, 1952, he entered the United States Army. John was honorably discharged from the Army on June 11, 1955. Upon his discharge from the military, he returned to Mahaska County and worked at many places. On December 26, 1958, he was united in marriage to Judy McAdoo Anderson. John worked as the ground’s superintendent and gravedigger at Forest Cemetery for over 30 years. He was a member of the Oskaloosa American Legion. He was always up for a trip to Meskwaki to find the best paying slot machines. He enjoyed working in his garage and repairing small engines. He also enjoyed working outdoors, he kept his yard mowed and looking nice and then was happy to help family members with their mowing as well. He always looked forward to the annual Mother’s Day family mushroom hunting adventures and going on Sunday drives. In retirement he and Judy enjoyed going to flea markets and garage sales looking for bargains. The two of them also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles together.
His family includes his children, Robert “Mindy” Anderson, Jr. of Cement, Oklahoma, Terry (Becky) Anderson of Oskaloosa, Herschel Beadle of Noble, Oklahoma, Marilyn (Dave) Thomas of Oskaloosa, and Sally Beadle of Oskaloosa; a son-in-law, Phillip Reeves Jr. of Des Moines; grandchildren, Sharon Miller, Robert Anderson III, Joe Anderson, Johnny Anderson, Jamie Kleine, Jeramie Moore, Phillip Reeves III, Christopher Beadle and Brad Beadle; many great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Judy who died November 17, 2015, John was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara Reeves; a grandson, James Ray Beadle; a granddaughter, Holly Terpstra; a daughter in law, Rowena Anderson; five brothers, Fay, Lloyd, Warren, Lyle, and Melvin Beadle; and a sister, Isabell Long.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating. As was John’s wish his body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. Graveside military honors and burial will be held Monday, July 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in the Friends Cemetery. Those planning to attend the graveside service can meet at the Bates Funeral Chapel by 10:00 a.m. Monday where a procession will form to go to the cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family present will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m.
