Police: Intoxicated Ottumwa Man Hit Woman with Beer Bottle

An Ottumwa man allegedly hit a woman in the head with a beer bottle while intoxicated.

69-year-old Jerry Willis was charged with Public Intoxication and Willful Injury Resulting in Bodily Injury.

On June 15, court records say police reported to the scene of a female who was hit in the head with a glass beer bottle by Willis. According to authorities, Willis was outside of a Casey’s with watery bloodshot eyes, unsteady balance, an odor of alcohol, and slurred speech.

Ottumwa police offered Willis a Datamaster Breath Test after he refused to take a Preliminary Breath Test, according to court documents. His BAC was .322%. Willis was taken to the hospital to lower his BAC before he was taken to jail.

Willis is located in the Wapello County Jail. He is being held without bond.
