Margaret Veldhuizen, 92, of Oskaloosa, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Margaret Jane Veldhuizen, daughter of Charles Wesley and Alpha Mildred (Frazell) Apgar, was born on August 27, 1934, in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from Centerville, Iowa High School in 1952, where she played basketball. As a teenager, Margaret’s church sponsored many activities and speakers, and many young people from the surrounding area visited. On one such occasion, a young man from Mahaska County spotted Margaret, and a courtship began. On February 24, 1954, Margaret and Carl Wayne Veldhuizen were united in marriage at the Centerville Gospel Chapel. They made their home on the Veldhuizen home place because Carl’s parents had recently moved to Oskaloosa. She was a city girl, but adapted very well to farm life. She helped Carl with many of the chores and always had a bountiful garden. Margaret was an excellent cook – it was her love language. She shared her garden’s produce and spent many weeks each summer and fall preserving it. Her daughters were by her side in the kitchen from an early age, learning every recipe and technique – now family traditions lovingly passed along and cherished.
Margaret attended the Parkview Bible Chapel in Eddyville and, later, the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa. She and Carl enjoyed opening their home to many missionary families and speakers throughout the years. She enjoyed attending Southern Gospel Music events and her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sports activities.

Her family includes her children, Linda (Joe) Taylor of Oskaloosa, Diane (Dan) Hulbert of Cedar, and Les and (Loraine) Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Leah (Brad) Ozinga of Oskaloosa, Rachael (Joe) Pahl of Dike, Rebecca (Brandon) Rozenboom of Bussey, Jessica (Marc) Nollen of Cedar, Dr. Travis (Katie) Hulbert of Ellettsville, IN, Valerie (Josh) Fisk of Searsboro, Lucas Veldhuizen of Hendersonville, TN; 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Carol (Jim) Kozak of Waukee, IA; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys VandeKrol of Waterloo, IA and Nancy Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Carl, of 63 years, Margaret was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Milo VandeKrol and Willis Veldhuizen.

Funeral services for Margaret will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at the Fellowship Bible Church with Mr. Bruce Taylor and Rev. Rodney DeRonde officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. on Thursday at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 4-6 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Parkview Bible Chapel or the Mahaska Health Foundation for the Hospice Serenity House.
