Iowa’s latest voter registration report shows an increase in the number of registered voters across all three major voter classifications over the past month.
According to data from the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office, the state had 1,855,812 active registered voters as of November 1, 2026.
Compared with October 1, the number of registered Republicans increased by 3,860. Democrats saw an increase of 8,751, while voters registered as independent or with no party affiliation increased by 10,770.
Despite the smaller monthly increase, Republicans continue to make up the largest share of Iowa’s registered voters, accounting for just over 38.5 percent of the total.
The November 1 registration totals were:
- Republicans: 717,165
- Independent or no-party voters: 582,922
- Democrats: 541,989
For comparison, the October 1 totals were:
- Republicans: 713,305
- Independent or no-party voters: 572,152
- Democrats: 533,238
The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office updates voter registration statistics at the beginning of each month.
Polls across Iowa are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Absentee ballots must be received by the voter’s county auditor by 8 p.m. to be counted.
Election workers may begin counting absentee ballots earlier in the day, meaning some of the first election results released Tuesday evening could include absentee voting totals.
