Iowa Home Care Advocates for In-Home Care During National Home Care Month

As National Home Care Month begins Sunday, November 1, Iowa Home Care is celebrating the Iowans it serves, the employees who make that care possible, and a commitment that extends beyond every home visit: fighting for Iowans’ right to receive care at home.

Iowa Home Care remains Iowa’s largest privately held home health agency owned and operated by a nurse. Founded in 2004 by Kimberly Weber, RN, MS, CHCE, the agency serves children, adults and seniors through offices in West Des Moines, Webster City, Ottumwa and Marshalltown, reaching families in rural communities and cities alike.

“Home is where people build their lives, raise their families and feel they belong,” said Kimberly Weber, founder and owner of Iowa Home Care. “When someone needs health care, they deserve the opportunity to receive it at home whenever their needs can be safely met there. We will continue to fight to protect that choice.”

Over the years, Iowa Home Care has served thousands of Iowans and provided employment opportunities to hundreds of people across the state. Its nurses, therapists, home health aides and support teams help Iowans recover from illness, manage complex conditions and maintain daily routines. Their work also helps families navigate caregiving responsibilities and gives loved ones support as care needs change.

That impact reaches into Iowa’s workforce and local communities. Home care creates meaningful careers close to home, supports employees and their families, and brings professional care to people who may face long distances to other services. Throughout November, Iowa Home Care will recognize the skill, dedication and compassion its employees bring to Iowa homes every day.

Protecting access to that care also requires advocacy. Iowa Home Care continues to challenge payment and coverage barriers, delayed reimbursements and authorization decisions that can threaten access to necessary services. The agency is pressing Medicaid managed care organizations, state officials and federal leaders for timely answers, fair reimbursement and accountability.

“Behind every authorization and payment decision is an Iowa family and a professional ready to care for them,” Weber said. “We will keep working with the MCOs, the state and the federal government, and we will keep challenging barriers that stand between Iowans and the care they need. Our responsibility to our clients does not end when a visit ends.”

During National Home Care Month, Iowa Home Care is asking Iowans to recognize the professionals who bring care into their neighbors’ homes and urging policymakers and health plans to protect the services and workforce that make that care possible.

“We are proud to be Iowa owned and nurse led,” Weber said. “We will continue to show up, speak up and fight for Iowans to receive care at home, where they deserve to be.”
