Evictions are on the rise across Iowa, creating challenges for families trying to stay in their homes and for communities working to address housing instability.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development will take a closer look at the issue during its upcoming Community Matters Live webinar on Wednesday, October 28.
The free webinar will run from noon to 1 p.m. and will feature Christopher Merkle, managing attorney with the Eviction Diversion Project at Iowa Legal Aid.
Merkle will discuss some of the factors contributing to Iowa’s housing challenges and how evictions are affecting different groups, including contract buyers, mobile home park residents and older adults.
He will also explain how the eviction process works and highlight resources available to communities dealing with large-scale eviction events.
The webinar has also been approved for one hour of American Planning Association Certification Maintenance credit.
Community Matters Live is a monthly webinar series designed for people involved in housing, planning, local government and community development. Each session brings together Extension specialists, researchers and other experts to discuss issues affecting communities across Iowa.
The October 28 webinar is free, but registration is required.
