A Van Buren County man who was convicted on three counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree in July has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Nicholas Bowermaster, 66, of rural Keosauqua was sentenced on Friday, October 9th to three consecutive 10-year prison sentences — meaning he must serve each sentence back to back rather than simultaneously. Bowermaster has since been transferred to the Iowa Department of Corrections at IMCC Oakdale to begin serving his sentence.
As Ottumwa Radio previously reported, Bowermaster was found guilty by a Van Buren County jury on July 23rd following a three-day trial. The offenses took place between 2005 and 2011, during which time the victim had been placed into Bowermaster’s custody by the Iowa Department of Human Services and he was her legal guardian. He was originally arrested on these charges in September 2024.
