President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a campaign rally in Sioux City on Thursday, October 22, in support of Republican candidates running in Iowa’s November general election.
Iowa Republican Party Chairman Jeff Kaufmann announced the event and said Trump also plans to hold a second rally in Iowa on Sunday, November 1. The location for the November 1 event has not yet been announced.
Kaufmann said in a social media post that he had spoken with Trump, who wanted to deliver a message to Iowa voters before Election Day.
Trump later confirmed his campaign plans in a social media post, naming U.S. Senate candidate Ashley Hinson, Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn and the four Republican candidates running for Iowa’s U.S. House seats. Trump expressed his support for the candidates and said they had his endorsement.
During a September 28 event at the White House, Trump also discussed plans to campaign in Iowa before the general election. He said he intended to hold a rally in support of Republican candidates.
The upcoming rallies come as Iowa’s congressional, gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races attract significant campaign spending. Three of Iowa’s four U.S. House races, along with the races for governor and U.S. Senate, have seen tens of millions of dollars spent on advertising, according to the provided report.
The rallies are scheduled ahead of the November general election, when Iowa voters will decide several statewide and congressional races.
