A central Iowa man was charged with a felony after allegedly hitting another man with a glass bottle in July.
Gavyn Thordarson of Knoxville, 19, was charged with willful injury – causing serious injury, a Class C felony.
Court records say a witness saw Thordarson strike a man in the face with a liquor bottle on July 25th at 4:00 AM. The incident allegedly occurred at a residence on 210th Avenue in Ottumwa.
According to the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office, the bottle broke during the assault and the victim lost consciousness. Additionally, the victim sustained significant face injuries including swelling, bruising, abrasions, a laceration under his eye that required stitches, and vision problems that required follow-up treatment. The criminal complaint states a deputy found a portion of the broken bottle in the victim’s truck after the incident.
A warrant for Thordarson was issued on September 8th and he was taken into custody on October 2nd.
Thordarson is currently housed in the Wapello County with no bond. He has preliminary hearing scheduled for October 12th.
