National Weather Service Decommissions iNWS Alert System

The National Weather Service has decommissioned its iNWS website and storm report page following a worldwide cybersecurity vulnerability that prompted an urgent review of its web systems.

According to the National Weather Service, teams acted quickly to apply security patches and protect their systems. Officials report that NWS websites are operating normally, although several pages have been taken offline as part of the response.

The iNWS website and its storm report page were officially decommissioned on October 22, 2026.

The iNWS platform provided customized weather forecasts, watches and warnings through mobile devices and online services. The system was already scheduled for replacement, but the cybersecurity issue accelerated that process.

The National Weather Service is working to speed up the development of replacement alerting services. A transition for the storm report page is also planned in the coming weeks. Officials say additional information will be released as new services and timelines become available.

During the transition, new users cannot register for iNWS. Existing users may experience reduced information in alerts, missing map images in emails and broken links in text messages.

Until replacement services are available, the public can continue checking current weather watches, warnings and advisories through their local National Weather Service forecast office.

Users with technical questions about the transition can contact nws.partnersupport@noaa.gov. Media inquiries can be directed to nws.pa@noaa.gov.
