Johnnie Lee Jones, age 72, of Albia, Iowa, was born on June 30, 1954, and was promoted to Heaven on October 5, 2026.
Johnnie was the youngest of four boys born to Viola Estella Jones and John Edward Jones. From the very beginning, he faced challenges that many could not imagine. Born with a brain injury, Johnnie spent his life overcoming obstacles with a resilience and determination that both inspired and tested those who knew him. His journey was not always easy, but he persevered through life’s difficulties with a strength, courage, and spirit that were uniquely his own.
As the baby of the family, Johnnie possessed a mischievous streak that brought both laughter and frustration to those around him. It was not uncommon for him to find himself in the middle of a little trouble, or to be the reason one of his brothers, especially Larry, was getting blamed for something. These stories became treasured family memories through the years and reflected the childlike nature that remained a part of who he was throughout his life.
Johnnie’s life was marked not only by the challenges he endured, but also by the love he shared with family, his house brothers, and the caring staff who became like family in the group homes where he lived as an adult. He treasured his place among both his blood brothers and his house brothers. His perseverance, sense of humor, and enduring spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew and loved him.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Wayne Jones. He is survived by his brothers, Ralph Edward “Eddie”; Jones and Larry Dewayne Jones, along with many beloved cousins, extended family members, house brothers, caregivers, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Though his earthly journey has ended, Johnnie’s loved ones find comfort in knowing he has been welcomed into his heavenly home. His life reminds us that strength is often found not in the absence of challenges, but in the courage to face them every day.
One of Johnnie’s favorite songs to sing with his brother Larry was Jesus Loves Me. We invite you to take a moment, pause, and sing:
“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”
May Johnnie’s memory bring comfort, laughter, and peace to all who knew him. And if you do not know Jesus, Johnnie would want you to ask someone who does. He would want nothing more than to see you all again someday, give you a grand tour of Heaven, and hear the words he has now heard for himself:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
A graveside service for Johnnie will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilla, Iowa on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials are to the family.
