The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled against a Dordt College nursing student in a COVID vaccine case.

Dordt Student Andrew Perry was required to get the COVID vaccine before going into his clinical nursing rotation, but asked for a religious exemption and was denied. Perry sued claiming religious discrimination under the Iowa Civil Rights Act.

The district court dismissed the suit, ruling the evidence showed that Perry did not have a sincerely held religious objection to the vaccine, and it was really his parents who opposed the vaccine. The Iowa Supreme Court says the district court properly evaluated the evidence presented, and upheld the district court decision.
