Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in a northwest Iowa commercial turkey flock.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the case in Sac County brings the total for the state in 2026 to eight.
The Department is strongly encouraging Iowa poultry producers and backyard flock owners to continue bolstering biosecurity practices and to monitor flocks for suspected signs of H5N1, including a sudden increase in mortality, lack of energy, or decrease in egg production.
