Fairfield Youth Performing Arts will bring S.E. Hinton’s “The Outsiders” to the stage in what will be the first theatrical production held at Fairfield’s new Blue Rose Ballroom & Bistro, according to the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
The production uses Christopher Sergel’s stage adaptation of the novel, following the conflict between the Greasers and the Socs in 1960s Tulsa. The show captures what the company describes as “the raw power, brotherhood, and poignant yearning” of the story’s characters through the work of its young cast.
Ever since S.E. Hinton wrote the novel as a teenager, “The Outsiders” has endured as a defining work of young adult literature. The story confronts divisions of socioeconomic class, tribal loyalty and the isolation of adolescence, while finding its lasting power in moments of tenderness — most notably the bond of chosen family and the plea to “stay gold.”
The show is produced by Fairfield Youth Performing Arts and The Barbershop on Broadway. Performances are scheduled for Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.
Tickets purchased online are $16 for adults and $10 for students. At the door, tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students. Tickets and additional information are available at our.show/5nwtz9ak73.
