A Fairfield man is facing multiple felony charges after officers found him asleep on the side of a road with drugs in plain view earlier this month.

Scot Christensen, 56, has been charged with three counts of Possession of Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D Felony, Possession of Contraband in Correctional Institution, a Class D Felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.

According to court documents, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Main Street on Tuesday, October 6th around 3:14 p.m. for a report of a male subject lying on the side of the road. Upon arrival, officers located Christensen sleeping on the grass. He was holding drug paraphernalia in his hand, and a baggie of a white crystalline substance was on the ground next to him in plain view. The crystalline substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. Court documents note Christensen has five prior offenses for possession of controlled substances, four in Jefferson County ranging from 2007-2015, and one in Mahaska County in 2016.

Christensen was placed under arrest. While searching his person, officers located a baggie containing marijuana, a scale, and a marijuana pipe, according to court documents.

Prior to arriving at the Jefferson County Jail, Christensen was asked if he had any other narcotics on his person. He said no, court documents state. Jail staff later located a baggie containing heroin in his right front pocket.

Christensen is being held on $20,300 cash or surety bail. His arraignment is scheduled for November 3rd.
