Attorney General Brenna Bird today praised the hard work and persistence of the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation in the arrest of Kelly Grant, 59, of Bertha, Minnesota, for the 1995 murder of Angela Buck. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office Cold Case Unit assisted in the later stages of the investigation.
Angela “Angie” Renee Buck, 37, of Waterloo was found deceased in rural Black Hawk County by two hunters on August 11, 1995. Black Hawk County deputies responded to the scene. The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office later determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound and it was classified as a homicide.
The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office continued to investigate the case, assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office Cold Case Unit. On October 15, 2026, deputies for the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Todd County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Grant for the murder of Angela Buck.
“After 31 years, Angie Buck’s family is getting answers,” said Attorney General Brenna Bird. “Because of the dedication of Black Hawk County Sheriff Neff, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Black Hawk County Attorney Brian Williams, and with assistance from our Cold Case Unit, there will be justice for Angie Buck. No one should get away with murder. With this arrest, we continue to show we will never give up on justice for victims, answers for families, and accountability for criminals.”
No further details are being released currently. The investigation is ongoing. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
