Veterans and eligible spouses from across the area will have an opportunity to receive food assistance during the next Veteran’s Mobile Food Distribution in Ottumwa.
The distribution will be held Thursday, October 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Emergency Management Building, 2417 Emma Street in Ottumwa.
The event is a drive-through distribution. Participants should remain in their vehicles, and volunteers will load food from the driver’s side only. Food may be placed in the passenger compartment or in the bed of a pickup truck.
Participants are asked to make room in their vehicles before arriving to ensure there is enough space for the dry box and other food items.
Eligibility and Registration
The program is open to honorably discharged veterans and spouses of deceased veterans. The distribution is open to eligible participants from all counties.
Veterans picking up food for an eligible veteran who is unable to attend must provide the veteran’s written name, address and contact information. The distribution is limited to four eligible participants.
New participants should let registration volunteers know when they arrive. First-time participants will need to provide their name, address, veteran or widow status, and household size, as required by the food bank.
All participants must re-register annually.
For information about the food distribution, including the October menu, listeners can tune in to Veteran’s Corner on KBIZ 1240 AM Morning Dialogue with host Ellis Codjoe on Thursday, October 1, from 8 to 9 a.m. Deb Roe and Don Lewis will be on the program to discuss the distribution and share the menu.
