Sarah Trone Garriott, the Democrat running against Third District Congressman Zach Nunn, says Nunn should back a measure that would let victims of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein sue the Department of Justice for failing to fully release all of its records on Epstein.
rone Garriott toured a traveling exhibit of the Epstein Files that’s on display in Des Moines this week. “It is overwhelming to see all this evidence of a massive criminal operation that was abusing children,” she said, “to see what is still an active crime being committed against survivors who need to have accountability.”
Trone Garriott met with the brother of the late Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who told the FBI she had been groomed by Epstein when she was a teenager and trafficked to other men, including Prince Andrew. “What’s really powerful about this exhibit is that it makes it real,” Sky Roberts said. “You can’t walk away. It makes you question what’s behind these pages.”
The government reports that have been released sit in binders on hundreds of book shelves, but many have blacked out pages where information has been redacted. Trone Garriott accuses the Department of Justice of preventing a full investigation of alleged perpetrators named in the files. “I haven’t seen a good faith effort from the administration to do their job on this matter,” Trone Garriott said, “and so I do feel it’s congress’ role to step up.”
Last November, Nunn called Epstein “a disgusting human being who committed horrific crimes”. A spokesman for Nunn’s congressional campaign said Nunn voted for the Epstein Files Transparency Act “to deliver transparency to the American people and justice to the victims.”
