Iowa beef and dairy veterinarians, farmers and industry stakeholders are invited to join the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Dairy Team for a two-day event this fall. The Iowa Dairy Industry Doubleheader will take place on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, featuring both a professional development workshop and a social networking tailgate co-hosted by the ISU Extension and Outreach Dairy Team and the Dairy Science Club at Iowa State.

On Friday, Oct. 31, the program begins at the Iowa State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Ames for an afternoon focused on veterinary responses to emerging parasites. The session opens at noon with an optional VDL tour and practical guidance on submitting samples, followed by presentations and hands-on activities. The afternoon will include a hands-on parasitology laboratory and a group tabletop exercise on biosecurity readiness, giving beef, dairy and mixed-practice veterinarians a chance to work through identification and response scenarios alongside colleagues. The day closes with an ice cream social at 5 p.m. Space is limited to preserve the interactive format.

“The program will provide four hours of meaningful continuing education credits approved by both the Iowa Board of Veterinary Medicine and the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists,” said Dr. Phillip Jardon, clinical associate professor and dairy extension veterinarian at Iowa State. “We built the afternoon around interaction and hands-on activity because we believe attendees will learn this material best by working through it.”

On Saturday, Oct. 31, the Iowa Dairy Industry Tailgate will feature a fun and casual gathering for students, faculty, industry professionals, farmers and alumni. The tailgate will be held at the VDL before the Iowa State Cyclones football game, with food, refreshments and time to connect and network. The Iowa State Dairy Science Club will also host its annual alumni reunion as part of this event. A game watch party will be held at the VDL for those who are not attending the game, and parking will be available.

“The tailgate is all about building connections and celebrating our dairy industry community,” said Gail Carpenter, assistant professor and extension dairy specialist at Iowa State. “Whether you’re a student, alum or a professional in the industry, it’s a great opportunity to come together and enjoy the day.”

To register, visit The Iowa Dairy Industry Doubleheader. Space is limited for Friday’s program, so early registration is encouraged. Registration is not required for the Saturday tailgate.
