The Pekin community is once again showing its support for one of its own through a special program that provides families with a valuable gift when they need it most.
A year ago, Ella Ledger was selected as the team kid captain and received a year of emergency air medical transportation through Air Evac Lifeteam. This year, that same honor was extended to her younger brother, Graham.
Graham was born with a heart defect and is scheduled to undergo open-heart surgery on October 7. Through the program, Graham will have access to one year of Air Evac Lifeteam emergency services if the need arises.
The initiative was started several years ago through the Pekin Community School District football program and a local Air Evac Lifeteam pilot. Since then, it has become a meaningful way for the school and community to come together and support local families.
For the Ledger and Bond families, having both Ella and Graham nominated and selected has been an overwhelming experience filled with gratitude.
The families expressed their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has shown love, encouragement, and support during this time.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the community’s love and support,” the families shared. “Thank you to Air Evac Lifeteam and the Pekin School District for making this possible.”
The program is a reminder of the impact that can come from schools, local organizations, and community members working together to care for their neighbors.
As Graham prepares for his upcoming surgery, the Pekin community continues to stand behind him and his family with support and encouragement.
