An Oskaloosa man is facing felony charges after leading officers on a high-speed motorcycle chase through Mahaska County in the early morning hours of Monday, September 28th.
Ryan Jaennette, 45, has been charged with Eluding — Speed Over 25 Over the Limit, a Class D Felony, and Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. He also faces several scheduled violations including speeding 21 miles per hour or more over the limit on three separate occasions, failure to provide proof of financial liability, improper rear lamps, fraudulent use of registration, and failure to obey a stop sign and yield right of way.
According to court documents, an officer spotted Jaennette riding a motorcycle northbound on Gateway Drive in Oskaloosa at approximately 2:51 a.m. with a taillight out and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. After activating emergency lights, Jaennette circled around the Walmart parking lot before the officer activated their sirens, at which point Jaennette fled westbound on Highway 92. He reached speeds of 80 miles per hour in a posted 45 zone, then 90 miles per hour in both a posted 60 and posted 65 zone, and failed to stop at the intersection of Highway 92 and Highway 5. The motorcycle eventually came to a stop. A check through dispatch revealed Jaennette’s driver’s license was barred. The motorcycle was also displaying a plate registered to a trailer, and Jaennette was unable to provide proof of insurance.
A state public defender has been appointed to represent Jaennette. He is being held on a $7,000 cash or surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 8th.
