A Keosauqua man is facing a felony domestic abuse charge after allegedly grabbing a woman by the throat and choking her outside their shared residence.
George Cornell, 32, has been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault — Impeding Air and Blood Flow Causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony. The alleged incident occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. on September 16th.
According to court documents, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a domestic altercation outside a residence in Keosauqua. The caller reported that a male and female were arguing outside and that the male had punched the female in the face, causing her to fall to the ground.
Upon arrival, deputies observed visible injuries to the woman’s neck and throat. During the investigation, she reported that Cornell had grabbed her by the neck and throat with both hands and applied pressure, causing her to temporarily lose the ability to breathe and become lightheaded. Cornell and the victim reside together at the residence and have a child together. The child was not present during the alleged assault.
Cornell is being held on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. A no-contact order has been requested in the case. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 25th.
