Jefferson County Health Center is welcoming an experienced orthopedic surgeon to its team, according to a press release from the hospital.
Sandeep Munjal, MD, FAAOS, FAAHKS, brings 30 years of orthopedic surgery experience to JCHC Professional Clinic, where he will begin practicing on September 21st. Dr. Munjal comes to Fairfield following a successful career with Physicians Clinic of Iowa, UnityPoint Health — St. Luke’s Hospital, and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Dr. Munjal provides comprehensive general orthopedic care with a special focus on knee and hip surgery, adult joint reconstruction, and joint replacement. His areas of expertise include total and partial knee replacement, total hip replacement, arthroscopic surgery, and robotic-assisted joint replacement. His arrival will bring robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery to Jefferson County Health Center for the first time, giving patients access to advanced surgical options closer to home.
Dr. Munjal completed higher surgical training at the University of Birmingham in England, followed by an Adult Joint Reconstruction fellowship at the University of Chicago, a Lower Extremity Joint Replacement and Reconstruction fellowship at SUNY Buffalo, and an Orthopedic Surgery residency at SUNY Buffalo. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Society.
His path to medicine was shaped by witnessing the effects of polio in his home country and seeing firsthand the impact the disease could have on mobility and quality of life. Those experiences helped inspire his decision to pursue a career in medicine and orthopedics, a journey that was later featured in Flight to End Polio: How Polio Inspired a Surgeon’s Future.
Dr. Munjal is committed to listening carefully to his patients, helping them understand their condition and treatment options, and developing individualized treatment plans based on their needs and goals.
