The Fairfield Media Center has announced it is now operating as an Online Internet Channel, officially transitioning away from traditional cable broadcasting, according to a media release from the organization.
FMC has been developing its online presence since 2012 in anticipation of the shift toward streaming and on-demand services. Since then, the organization has accumulated 1.3 million views and nearly 3,000 subscribers across its YouTube channels.
The FMC Committee voted to discontinue its legacy cablecast in August 2026 due to equipment failures, maintenance costs, and low viewership. The Fairfield City Council gave its blessing to the decision during a City Council Study Session on September 14th.
FMC Director Strong said the transition does not change the organization’s mission. “Being an Online Internet Channel does not change who we are, what we do, or interfere with the services we provide,” Strong said. “It gives us the opportunity to better focus our energy on serving our community where they are with quality local programming.”
In August, FMC also expanded its webcast — currently hosted on the FMC website — to include its YouTube channel, providing viewers with options for both traditionally scheduled and on-demand viewing. “This is just one of many platforms FMC hosts for locally created content in our community,” Strong said.
Fairfield Media Center continues to make locally created video content available to Fairfield and Jefferson County residents while promoting media literacy through video production education, editing, and critical viewing.
