The Fairfield girls tennis team kept their perfect season intact Thursday, September 3rd, sweeping Mount Pleasant 9-0 to improve to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in Southeast Conference play — and in doing so, clinched at least a share of the Southeast Conference title.

The match was originally scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. but was pushed back to 6:30 p.m. due to the extreme heat, making for a long but successful evening for the Trojans.

In singles, Ria Ross defeated Lila Cook 8-0 at No. 1. Natalie Steele won 8-0 over Katana Phangchanthong at No. 2. Sriya Yammanur took No. 3 with an 8-3 victory over Bella Dodds. Mareyn Dunkin won 8-2 over Lianah Phangchanthong at No. 4. Faeven Gebremariam cruised to an 8-0 win over Shaye Barbee at No. 5, and freshman Kinzley Dunkin closed out singles with an 8-2 victory over Neva Swarm at No. 6.

In doubles, Ross and Aubrey Ryan defeated the Phangchanthong duo 8-0 at No. 1. The Dunkin Duo of Mareyn and Kinzley won 8-0 over Barbee and Dodds at No. 2. Yammanur and Gebremariam closed out the match with an 8-0 win over Lucca Moyes and Swarm at No. 3.

Fairfield’s next scheduled dual match is September 14th at Burlington, where the outright conference title could be decided. A September 12th tournament at Burlington has been cancelled for Fairfield due to players being unavailable for ACT and SAT testing. The Southeast Conference tournament follows on September 16th.
