Ottumwa’s annual Oktoberfest celebration is coming up, and motorists should be prepared for several temporary street closures during the Kiddie Parade and Main Parade.
The Kiddie Parade will be held Friday, October 2, beginning at 6 p.m. along Church Street. Street closures are expected from approximately 5 to 7 p.m., extending from the St. Patrick’s Church area to the Happy Joe’s area.
The Main Parade will take place Saturday, October 3, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Kitterman Avenue and West Main Street and travel east on Main Street to Green Street. It will then continue north on Green Street to East Second Street before heading west to the Wapello County/City of Ottumwa Law Enforcement Center.
The staging area for the Main Parade will also be closed to traffic. That closure will extend from the intersection of West Main Street and West Second Street to the beginning of the parade route on West Main Street. The staging area is expected to close around 7 a.m., with the parade route closure following at approximately 8 a.m.
All Saturday closures are expected to remain in place until around noon.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use caution when traveling near the parade routes. Drivers should also watch for pedestrians, parade participants and increased traffic in the area.
