The Des Moines National Weather Service is warning of several rounds of thunderstorms beginning tonight and continuing through at least midweek.
The highest threat is expected tonight into the overnight hours, roughly from midnight through 8 a.m. Tuesday, with the greatest risk focused across northwest Iowa.
Damaging wind gusts are the primary concern, although isolated large hail and locally heavy rainfall will also be possible.
Additional chances for strong to severe thunderstorms are expected across much of central Iowa Tuesday night and again Wednesday night. Forecasters say the timing and severity of those later storms will depend, in part, on how the earlier rounds of storms develop.
Residents are encouraged to remain weather aware, especially overnight, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
The National Weather Service says additional information will be provided as the forecast becomes clearer.
