The Wapello County Sheriff’s office says it was called by the FBI to assist in apprehending a fugitive from Oklahoma that was concealing his whereabouts locally.
According to authorities, 47-year-old Johnathan Michael Hartman was indicted by a federal grand jury in a district court in Oklahoma for 21 counts of wire fraud in 2018. Shortly after, law enforcement was unable to locate Hartman who also has outstanding warrants in Arkansas, Kansas, and Nebraska.
The sheriff’s office started an investigation and found that Johnathan Michael Hartman, 47, was living in a residence in rural Wapello County and involved with a local business. Officials were able to make contact with Hartman outside of a business on the 300 block of East Main Street and he was taken into custody without incident.
Hartman was transported to the Wapello County Jail where he will be held pending further proceedings regarding his outstanding warrants, according to the sheriff’s office.
