A judge has ruled Libertarians selected earlier this month as replacement candidates for lieutenant governor and the third congressional district cannot be listed on the General Election ballot.
The two candidates were nominated to replace Libertarians who were ruled ineligible by a state panel that cited paperwork issues, including one candidate who had filed to run under his stage name rather than his legal name. The judge ruled the Libertarian Party did not follow the process outlined in state law when it selected Jake Heard to run in the third congressional district and Charles Aldrich to be gubernatorial candidate Nicholas Gluba’s running mate.
The chair of the Libertarian Party of Iowa told the Des Moines Register the party is reviewing the ruling to determine if it will appeal the decision to Iowa’s Supreme Court.
Libertarian candidates have qualified to run in Iowa’s second congressional district and for Iowa’s U.S. Senate this year.
