Sue Crall, age 64, passed away on July 24, 2026 at her home, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and learning. She was born April 21, 1962, in Ottumwa to Edward and Kathleen (Flahive) Crall. Sue was a vibrant spirit who never missed an opportunity to educate, to love, and to inspire. Her life was a testament to the profound impact that one individual can make when they lead with their heart.
Sue graduated from Albia High School, class of 1980. Her journey in the realm of education began at Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, where she earned her BS. Her professional voyage took her to a variety of institutions, including Community Opportunities in Carroll, Bright Start Day Care in Des Moines, and Oasis/Little Miracles Child Care Center in Indianola. Later, she obtained her degree in Elementary education from UNI and spent five years teaching at Southeast Warren. For twenty-five years, she was a beloved substitute teacher in the local area, inspiring students with her passion for education. Her influence was such that many students would rush to greet her with a warm hug or a big smile, a testament to the profound impact she had on their lives.
Beyond her career, Sue was known for her love for reading, crafts, crystal figurines and following all sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Blue Demons and Lady Dees, and the Indiana Fever. She had a playful spirit, often gifting her nieces and nephews with the loudest toys, which she relished with laughter. She referred to herself as the favorite niece and aunt, and she truly was. Her love for the color purple was almost as deep as her love for Pepsi. However, above all, what mattered most to Sue was her faith and her family. She was always the one to initiate Grace at family meals, a testament to her deep-seated faith and her role as an essential member of her family.
Sue Crall will be remembered not only for her vibrant personality and heartfelt dedication to education but also for her unwavering love for her family and her steadfast faith. As we celebrate and honor her life, we are encouraged to uphold the values she held dear and to keep her spirit alive in our hearts.
She is survived by her mother, Kathleen Crall of Albia; siblings, Cindy (Mike) Landstrum of Indianola, Drs. Michael (Lauren) Crall of Cedar Falls, Kevin (Jill) Crall of Albia; nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Jeromy) Pribil of Indianola, Christy (Jackson) Naponic of Houston, TX, Cassie (Colton) Cason of Pella, Cade Crall of Waukee; great nieces and nephews, Jackson, Max, and Madden Pribil, Tanner and Tatum Naponic, Callah and Carver Cason, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
