The City of Sigourney has hired Adam Clark as its new police chief, with Clark set to begin in the role on August 3rd, 2026. The announcement came before the Sigourney City Council meeting on July 15th.
Clark comes to the position from the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a deputy and K-9 handler. His departure from the sheriff’s office was noted during the July 15th joint law enforcement meeting between Keokuk County mayors and the sheriff’s office, where officials acknowledged that Sigourney’s hire of a new officer from the existing deputy pool made the county’s overall staffing shortage worse in the short term — though it represented a positive step for the city itself.
The hire comes after a period of significant uncertainty for the Sigourney Police Department. At one point the city paused its search for a new police chief while exploring other options for the department’s future, including the possibility of disbanding the department altogether and relying solely on the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office for coverage. That prospect prompted a community petition urging the city council not to disband the department.
Clark’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Sigourney Police Department and comes at a critical time for law enforcement coverage across Keokuk County, where ongoing staffing shortages at the sheriff’s office have left communities across the county without reliable patrol coverage. Sigourney is the county seat and the largest city in Keokuk County.
