A 47-year-old Ottumwa woman is facing a disorderly conduct charge after police say she was waving a hatchet and yelling in an Oskaloosa neighborhood.

According to court records, officers with the Oskaloosa Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of A Avenue East at approximately 3:41 p.m. on July 5 following a report of a disorderly person.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found the hatchet resting on top of Hiatt’s suitcase. According to the criminal complaint, Hiatt told officers she intended to use the hatchet to protect herself if necessary.

A search conducted incident to her arrest allegedly uncovered two additional homemade axes inside her luggage.
