Police say an evicted Ottumwa couple broke into a garage and stole a pair of vintage cars earlier this month.
Christopher Tobeck, 47, and Robyn Assell, 38, each face the following charges:
- Two counts of first-degree theft (Class C felony)
- Second-degree theft (Class D felony)
- Third-degree burglary (Class D felony)
Court records say Tobeck and Assell were evicted from their residence and illegally entered a storage garage on Allison Avenue in Ottumwa at or around July 18th. While staying in the structure, police say the couple stole two classic cars, identified as mid-1920s roadsters valued at over $10,000 each, and a pallet of special-order custom lumber valued at over $5,000.
Tobeck and Assell were both arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail where they are each being held on a $20,000 bond.
Both defendants have a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 31st.
