Jannette Marie Newell, 88, formerly of Corydon, died at 6:50 a.m. July 23, 2026 at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia.
She was born November 5, 1937 in Wapello County, near Ottumwa, to Marion P. and Marie A. Paxton Slagle. Jannette married Carroll Newell on December 24, 1977 and he preceded her in death on June 6, 2001.
A 1956 graduate of Blakesburg High School, Jannette owned and operated Slagle Café in Eddyville. She and her husband owned and operated Newell Auction in Marshalltown.
Jannette was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and helped with the Great American Smokeout in Marshalltown. She was known for her world-famous cinnamon rolls.
Surviving are her sons, Greg Watsabaugh of Humeston and Jay Watsabaugh of Buffalo, WY; stepdaughter, Arlene (Jay) Newell of Floris; 6 grandchildren, Sara Moore, Amy Carrillo, Randy Watsabaugh, Jake Surber, Samantha Watsabaugh and Skylar Watsabaugh; 5 great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and her twin sister, Janet Thompson of Blakesburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Larry Thompson; and step children, Amy Verseman and Alan Newell.
Visitation will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday July 28th at Reece Funeral Home. Family will be present to greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday July 29th at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery near Eddyville.
Memorials may be made to the Antique Air Museum in Blakesburg or the Blakesburg Development Corp.
