A handmade quilt is helping raise funds to preserve one of Jefferson County’s most historic landmarks, according to a post from the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
Local quilter Kathy Tollenaere created and donated a twin-sized quilt that is currently on display at the Fairfield branch of Iowa State Bank, where it will remain through July 20th. A raffle drawing will be held on August 3rd, with all proceeds going toward the ongoing restoration of the Bonnifield Cabin.
Visitors can enter the raffle and make donations at the display. Stamped, addressed envelopes are available for those who wish to donate by mail, and participants will receive a photo of their raffle ticket by text or email as confirmation.
The Bonnifield Cabin is recognized as Iowa’s oldest surviving two-story log house and is considered an important piece of Jefferson County history. Funds raised through the raffle will go directly toward preserving the structure for future generations.
