Doris Jean (Smith) Bodkins, 91, of Bloomfield, Iowa, passed away on June 29, 2026, at the Davis County Hospital with family by her side. She was born on March 8, 1935, in Davis County to Forest and Gail Conner Smith. She married Hubert Lowell Bodkins on November 22, 1951, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2002.
Doris dedicated her life to her family, and the farm she proudly shared with her husband and sons. She found joy in caring for her home, tending to her garden, sewing for those she loved, and of course raising her sheep. She always created a warm and welcoming environment for her family and friends. Above all, Doris treasured her role as a grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved making each feel special with her quiet love, steady support, and caring heart.
She is survived by her three children, Dan (Becky) Bodkins, Patricia (Ray) Boas, Alan (Kyndal) Bodkins all of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Fritz) Runnells of Wapello, Iowa, Crystal (Brad) Fisher of Blakesburg, Iowa, Jean (Nate) Burchett, Melony (Rod) Thompson, David (Heather) Boas, April (Eric) Kerby, all of Bloomfield, Brooke (Alex) Guthrie of Blakesburg, Blair (Nathan) Gerlach of Springbrook, Iowa; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Dwayne Smith of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Donald “Doc” Smith, Darrell Smith; five sisters, Deloris Joan Smith, Dorothy Wallace, Deana Snelling, Pauline Burdett, Donna Harsch; and a great-granddaughter, Brystol Runnells.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Todd Ratliff officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 2-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars – Class of 1953 Scholarship.
