The National Weather Service in Des Moines is urging Iowans to take precautions as dangerous heat and humidity continue across the state today, with heat index values expected to range from 100 to 110 degrees.
The dangerous conditions are expected to impact all of Iowa through Monday before temperatures begin to moderate on Tuesday. Residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and check on family members, neighbors, and pets.
In addition to the heat, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across central and southern Iowa this afternoon. A few storms could produce strong wind gusts, although widespread severe weather is not anticipated. A small chance for storms also exists early this morning.
