The Iowa National Guard will hold a sendoff ceremony on Monday, July 13, to recognize approximately 80 Soldiers with the 734th Regional Support Group (RSG) as they prepare for a year-long deployment in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the 132d Wing, located at Des Moines International Airport.
The Soldiers will deploy to the U.S. European Command area of responsibility, where the 734th RSG headquarters will be based at Camp Kosciuszko in Poland. During the deployment, the unit will oversee Base Camp Operating Support-Integration operations at eight locations across Poland, as well as sites in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Their mission is to help maintain the readiness of U.S. and allied military forces throughout the Baltic region.
Operation Atlantic Resolve is an ongoing mission designed to strengthen NATO partnerships, improve military readiness and reinforce security across Europe through rotational deployments of U.S. forces.
“The men and women of the 734th Regional Support Group are answering the call to serve alongside our allies and partners in Europe,” said Iowa National Guard Adjutant General Major General Stephen Osborn. “As they deploy for the coming year, we are grateful for their commitment and equally thankful for the families whose support makes their service possible.”
Because the ceremony will take place on a military installation, attendance is limited to invited family members, close friends and accredited members of the media. The event is not open to the general public, and media representatives planning to attend must RSVP in advance through the Iowa National Guard Public Affairs Office.
