An Ottumwa man is facing multiple misdemeanor charges following an incident at a local business on May 28.
According to court records, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched to the 2500 block of Northgate at approximately 3:12 p.m. for a reported assault.
Authorities allege that 44-year-old Joshua Heilman of Ottumwa was consuming alcohol in a public place when he became belligerent and began threatening people inside the establishment. Court documents state Heilman allegedly made threats toward both patrons and staff members.
Investigators say Heilman threatened to fight individuals at the business and also reportedly threatened to shoot people if employees contacted law enforcement.
Heilman was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released after posting a $300 cash/surety bond.
He is charged with two counts of assault causing fear of immediate physical contact, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct involving fighting or violent behavior, all simple misdemeanors.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for June 2.
