An Ottumwa man is facing charges after allegedly threatening a grocery store employee during an incident earlier this month.
According to court records, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched to South Market Street at approximately 1:55 p.m. on June 11 in response to a harassment complaint.
Authorities allege that 38-year-old Kendly Joseph was intoxicated while inside a local grocery store. Court documents state that Joseph became belligerent after a store clerk asked him to leave the business.
Investigators say Joseph then threatened to return and shoot the employee. Court records indicate the incident was captured on surveillance video, which reportedly shows Joseph making a handgun gesture toward the victim.
An order of continuance was filed so an interpreter could be present for Joseph’s initial appearance, which was scheduled for June 15.
Joseph remains in the Wapello County Jail and is charged with first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
