A domestic dispute in Oskaloosa led to the arrest of two individuals after authorities say an altercation inside a residence turned physical.
According to court documents, officers with the Oskaloosa Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of North Market Street at approximately 9:01 p.m. on June 9 for a report of domestic abuse.
The criminal complaint states that 46-year-old Michael Williams of Oskaloosa grabbed the victim’s phone, which led to a confrontation. During the altercation, court records allege the victim was punched to the ground, and both Michael Williams and his mother, 65-year-old Cynthia Williams of Oskaloosa, were on top of the victim.
Authorities say both individuals repeatedly punched the victim in the head, and Cynthia Williams allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair. Court documents further state that the victim attempted to defend herself by scratching Michael Williams on the chest.
Records indicate that Michael Williams and the victim have been married for nine years. Cynthia Williams is Michael Williams’ mother and lives next door to the couple.
Both Michael Williams and Cynthia Williams were taken into custody and transported to the Mahaska County Jail.
Michael Williams is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault, an aggravated misdemeanor. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 19.
Cynthia Williams is charged with Simple Assault, a simple misdemeanor. Her pretrial conference is scheduled for July 15.
A no-contact order was issued on June 10, prohibiting both Michael and Cynthia Williams from having any contact with the victim.
